Coca-Cola recently unveiled five new limited-edition can designs for the summer. You really have to appreciate the simplicity, even if the themes aren't all that original. The grill can, above, is probably my favorite.
In the newly released book Chicken: Low Art, High Calorie, graphic designer Siaron Hughes takes a look at the graphics used in the fast-food signage of independent fried chicken restaurants. As Hughes explains over at Art MoCo: "The book isn't about food or healthy eating—it is about a very specific vernacular design used to market food. Nothing in the book talks about food, just the signage and designs used to sell the food." Tasty. Available for purchase here.
What could be more appropriate for Pancake Day? A concept for maple syrup packaging, where the emphasis has been placed almost exclusively on the syrup classification. (It's the maple wood veneer that I really like, though.) Designed by student Andrée Rouette.
The new Lab 03 wash basin from KOS features a modern, minimalistic appearance as well as a convenient, built-in hand towel rack. The unique free standing design allows for installation anywhere in a room, as well as outdoors.
Harry Allen originally designed the Brush Vase to hold paint brushes, but ended up creating a glass insert to hold water for flowers, as well. I like the idea of both uses, actually. Made from resin and marble. Available for pre-order here.
A delicious collaboration between renown patissier Tsujiguchi Hironobu and the Tokyo design studio Nendo. The chocolate pencils come in a number of cocoa blends varying in intensity, allowing you to customize your desert with the shavings from the sharpener.
Made entirely from zippers, the Zipp Lamp allows an owner to customize the lamp's appearance as well as the play of light. The Zipp collection, which includes a table lamp, standard lamp, and pendant lamp, is currently on display at the 2009 Stockholm Furniture Fair. Created by Camilla Waldal and Janne Helen Bulling, design students at Norway's Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
