From the website of Austin, Texas based photographer Jay B. Sauceda:
"Before there was vinyl printing there were big brick walls and craftsmen who covered said walls with their commercial artwork. This is my ever growing collection of those that I find while on the road."
Check out the full collection here. And be sure to look through the rest of his site. Lots of great portraits, too.
Ghost signs! I look everywhere that I go that I haven't been before. I did this kind of sign work (grain elevators as well) as a kid in the late Fifties and early Sixties. There's quite a following for this type of sign across the United States.

I had a seedy apartment in Seattle that existed where two buildings had been joined. One wall of my apartment was a former exterior wall, complete with a faded "cigars 5 cents" painted mural. they probably could have charged extra for that apartment.

I love old buildings with original painted signs like that. Here in Kalamazoo we have quite a few.

I Love these pictures! They sort of capture a moment in time, long gone, but traces still remain. Marvelous!
