Things Magazine has a really nice collection of vintage Pelican books, broken out by decade and year, starting in the 1930s and going through the 1980s. Lots of good visual inspiration to be found here.

Argentinean artist Claudio Roncoli combines Maoist propaganda, religious symbols, and vintage American advertising to create scenes of "acquired" happiness. His colorful mixed-media pieces also combine digital media, photography, and acrylic paint. Roncoli's solo exhibit, The Great Pretender, is on display at Gallery 415 in San Francisco from February 7 through March 29. Check it out if you're in the area.

The Year in Ideas

To promote the annual Year in Ideas issue, The New York Times Magazine created this nice little video. Take a minute (actually 1:42) to learn about some of the big ideas from 2007 that may end up making a huge impact on our lives in the years to come. Stick through to the very end; especially if you think you need to be some sort of scientist to make big discoveries. All it takes, sometimes, is a willingness to look at the world in a different way.
